Mask
Bust
Plan; Before hollowing the neck and shoulders out, I built up the general shape and added the neck muscle and protruding shoulder joints. Then, I hollowed out the inside before moving on to making a head. I was going to add the head onto the neck when it was done, but since it was too big I instead used it for another project.
Reflection;
While working on this project, I used both historical sculptures and real-life references to make the base. By doing this, I feel I have gained a better understanding of how the human body is designed. I also have learned from this that if I ever attempt to do another bust, it would be a better idea to sculpt the head first so it can fit onto the neck, rather than it not being used at all.

Mask
Plan; Originally, this head was supposed to be used for my bust. However, due to its size, I converted it into a mask instead. I first started by sculpting out the chin and mouth, before moving up to the forehead to work on the eyes and scalp. Once I had the base features down, I smoothed out the sides of the face to create the jaw. Then, I loosely added clumps of clay to the top of the head, sculpting out the hair and then removing excess clay.
Reflection;
Although I wanted to a more realistic look in the beginning, this piece helped remind me that although a realistic depiction is fun to do, it can also eventually drive you towards a need for constant perfection.
