Before the semester even began, I had started with the idea of painting what I perceived the inside of a person’s mind looked like. But it felt too simple, and did not delve into a deeper topic that I could explorer for longer. As I changed the layout of my first piece, I also began to change my idea. I stead began to focus on what society majoritivly decides what belongs and what doesn’t, historically and currently. I wanted to portray the beauty of these ideas, and how the lack of acceptance stripped away at them in different ways. From the removal of cultures to the generalized divide between white and black, I came to the conclusion that I would represent each of these through different mediums to have them feel independent from each other.
